George accepted the Lord’s call to ministry in 1995, while under the pastoral leadership of Dr. James Jennings Sr., Senior Pastor of the New True Vine Missionary Baptist Church in Detroit, MI.
In 1998, George graduated Cum Laude from the University of Detroit Mercy with both a Bachelor’s of Science in Health Service Administration and a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Religious Studies. He finished the requirements for the latter degree at the historic Oxford University in Oxford, England where he studied Reformation and Renaissance Studies under renowned theologians, such as Dr. Alister McGrath. After returning from England, George earned a Master’s of Health Management and Policy degree from the University of Michigan. This enabled George to become a commissioned officer in the United States Navy.
Upon moving to Southern California, the Lord led George to the Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church in Los Angeles, CA where H.B. Charles, Jr. was the Senior Pastor.
In a great step of faith, George laid aside a promising military career to attend the Master’s Seminary to prepare for full-time ministry. George graduated from the Master’s Seminary with a Master’s of Divinity in may 2006 and was promoted to full-time Pastoral service at the MSMBC, as Associate Pastor.
On September 29, 2008, Mt. Sinai overwhelmingly elected George E. Hurtt as the new pastor after Pastor Charles was called to a new assignment. George prayerfully accepted God’s call to be the next shepherd to lead Mt. Sinai.
George hopes that the Lord will continue to use him for His glory and that his personal walk before God will match his knowledge of God and His Word.
